Description

The grant-funded staff person will implement initiatives that will produce a lasting improvement in municipal GHG emissions reduction. The first required phase of work is to develop a corporate and a community GHG emissions reduction plan. The plans will establish a baseline GHG emissions inventory. set emissions reduction targets, and outline actions to reduce GHG emissions for municipal operations and the community in allareas of municipal activity, including energy use, transportation planning, land use, waste and water management. The second required phase of work for the grant-funded staff person is to implement operational and institutional changes that will help ensure long-term GHG emissions reduction afte rthe grant period.The third phase of work will be to carry out the preparatory work to be able to implement climate mitigation projects and the grant-funded staff person is required to move activities from the planning stage to the implementation stage over the course of the grant period.In Year 1 , the Recipient plans to:Form an interdepartmental working group on climate action and create a project charterEstablish corporate GHG reduction targetsCreate a corporate Climate Action PlanForm a Municipal Climate Change Working Group (MCCWG) & create a project charterComplete educational climate training in MCCWGForm Dufferin County Climate Change Round Table and create a project charterComplete a community GHG inventoryEstablish community GHG reduction targetsReview existing county policies and practicesEvaluate framework and programs to assist in climate action planningEvaluate potential capital project budget requirementsIdentify, review and evaluate potential capital projects to reduce GHG emissionsIdentify potential sources of funding for capital projectsAllocate funds in capital budget to work on climate mitigation projects in 2020In Year 2, the Recipient intends toDevelop a communications strategyDetermine additional stakeholders and establish engagement process for developing theCommunity Climate Action PlanHold public consultation and engagement eventsCreate task forces within the Dufferin Climate Change Round Table to address focusareas in creating the action planComplete the Community Action PlanObtain council approval for the Community Action PlanReview policy and action plan to integrate into Official PlanEstablish process to identify new GHG reduction opportunitiesComplete the preparatory stages for project implementation
