Description
Municipalities make regulatory, tax, subsidy, and construction approval decisions on a day-to-day basis. These decisions have an impact, positive or negative, on the community’s carbon footprint. The proposed approach is intended to help them seize every opportunity to reduce emissions, whether it involves a real estate project, a transportation project, etc.COLLABORATE AND DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE VISIONIn each participating municipality, Vivre en Ville will encourage the various departments to share their respective concerns in order to overcome obstacles and obtain maximum benefit (a reflex acquired through past support experiences). Departments (public works, engineering, environment, urban planning, economic development, etc.) will be brought together for brainstorming, training, and planning activities. The proposed approach is intended to be part of each municipality’s planning process so it can yield major long-term results. BENEFITS FOR THE COMMUNITYUrban development that reduces municipalities’ carbon footprint also provides many environmental, economic, and social benefits, including: ? Reduced climate risks (flooding, erosion)? Conservation of natural environments? Reduced infrastructure costs? Better access to services and jobs for all
