Description

The Town of Strathmore wants to implement a long-term wastewater management strategy, involving storage inwetlands and re-use of high quality treated effluent. Storage in wetlands would achieve further polishing and nutrientremoval, and would be combined with other agricultural or industrial use. As part of this study, a controlled volume andquality of effluent will be introduced into an existing wetland system - The George Freeman Marsh, an existing Duck'sUnlimited Canada (project partner) project - over a three-year period. The project is innovative since it is re–using a"waste" resource. Benefits would accrue to the wetlands and adjacent ecosystems and from the potential use of effluentsin agriculture and industry.
