Description
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Town of Berwick will undertake four sub-projects as part of the energy-related section — the Berwick Energy Future — of their Integrated Sustainable Community Plan (ISCP). The sub-projects include a feasibility study of a district energy thermal utility; a feasibility study of a district energy anaerobic digestion facility; an energy audit of the town hall with recommendations for upgrades; and staging of a one-day energy awareness and education fair for residents, businesses and other organizations. The construction and operation of a one-megawatt district energy anaerobic digestion facility would lead to an estimated annual reduction of 7,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. If all four sub-projects are carried out, GHG emissions would be cut by an estimated 11,000 tonnes a year.
