Description
The City of Sherbrooke will conduct three field tests involving the selective collection of waste from municipal buildings, the recovery of recyclable material from large parks and the revegetation of banks. An environmental education program will engage municipal employees and Sherbrooke residents and help them gain a better understanding of the efforts. Waste will be collected from 10 municipal buildings, recyclable material will be recovered from five municipal parks, and some 30 km of bank will be revegetated. The measures will help reduce erosion, decrease runoff speed, improve surface water quality and develop the natural landscape. Sediment inflow and bank degradation will be more effectively controlled, while water quality will improve and the water cycle will be enhanced. The measures will also reduce the volume of waste from municipal buildings going to landfill by 80 per cent, and from parks by 70 per cent.
