The City of Toronto will conduct a feasibility study to identify and recommend additional energy efficiency options for the Toronto Public Library’s (TPL) mechanical and electrical systems to enable TPL to reduce energy use by 12.5 per cent by 2010, an additional 25 per cent above the 10.2 per cent reduction achieved to date. The research team will inspect each Toronto Public Library location and obtain energy use data. The team will research technology options (for example, comparing building automation systems to local control systems) and analyze the project cost-benefit for each library site in relation to expected energy reduction. The team will also prepare a budget and a plan for priority sites and for the long-term rollout of projects. The study will provide a more accurate estimate of the anticipated energy and cost savings.
