Description
The Truro Cogeneration/District Heating Steering Committee, formed in 2002, is investigating the financial andengineering feasibility of establishing a cogeneration plant to supply electricity and heating to the Town’s industrial park. The study will assess if the construction of a gas cogeneration plant would provide the opportunity to stabilize the cost ofelectricity for industry and reduce pollution from Nova Scotia Power coal generation. It involves three overlapping parts -a cogeneration plan study, a district heating system study and an emission baseline study - and an extension of studiescarried out in 1998-99. Future implementation is made possible by the introduction of natural gas to the Maritimes.Based on the expectation that such a project would generate 10 megawatts of electricity, an annual reduction ofapproximately 69,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) is possible.
