Description
A detailed business case will be developed for a biogas plant, building on the results of GMEF 2800, which confirmed the feasibility of building and operating a demonstration project/pilot biogas plant with a treatment capacity of 270 tonnes per day. The demonstration project/pilot project will combine beef feedlot and municipal wastes from the area and mix it with wastewater from a large integrated hog enterprise. The materials will then be processed in an anaerobic digester where resulting purified CH4 will be used as fuel in a combined heat and power plant (CHP) to produce thermal and electrical energy. The pilot plant will use some of this energy with the remainder being sold for commercial use. In total, it is estimated that this project will result in a reduction of over 15 tonnes of CO2e/yr.
