The grant recipient will be required to implement initiatives that will have a long-term impact on corporate GHG emission reduction measures. The first mandatory phase consists in developing a GHG emissions reduction plan. The plan should update baseline data through a GHG emissions inventory, identify emission reduction targets, and outline corporate and community GHG emission reduction measures in all sectors of municipal activity, including energy use, transportation planning, land use planning, and waste and water management. The second mandatory phase consists in implementing operational and institutional changes that will generate long-term GHG emission reductions once the grant period ends. The third phase consists in completing the groundwork to implement the climate change mitigation projects; the grant recipient will be required to put the planned measures into action during the grant period. In Year 1, the Recipient plans to:• Update the GHG inventory• Raise awareness among citizens about drinking water management practices• Develop a guide to energy-efficient practices (for municipal staff persons)• Establish an action plan advisory committee• Implement a vehicle fuel consumption tracking tool• Adopt municipal policies• Replace end-of-life vehicles with more fuel-efficient vehicles• Sell municipality-provided composters (and kitchen bins) at reduced prices In Year 2, the Recipient plans to:• Develop a guide to energy-efficient practices (for citizens)• Raise awareness among the community about idling• Support energy efficiency improvement projects in municipal buildings• Investigate biofuel options for municipal vehicles• Follow up with the action plan advisory committee• Provide rain cisterns• Replace high-pressure sodium street lights with LED street lights• Replace end-of-life vehicles with more fuel-efficient vehicles• Sell municipality-provided composters (and kitchen bins) at reduced prices• Raise awareness among the public about the disposal of old vehicles
