Description
The Jean Tweed Treatment Centre (JTTC, est. 1983), is a community-based agency that offers services such as residential and day programming, out-patient programming, counselling and continuing care for women struggling with substance use issues. The centre has offered seven supportive and transitional housing units since 2016. This feasibility study will review retrofit and new-build possibilities to expand and improve JTTC’s housing portfolio to 15 units. FCM funding will support the energy modelling of the study, helping determine which energy efficiency measures will provide the best environmental benefits, energy savings, and affordability. The new build addition will target Net Zero Energy, while any proposed retrofitting will target a minimum energy reduction of 25%. Innovative aspect(s): - Adding infill units in densely populated urban settings is an innovative way to improve housing capacity while managing costs and prioritizing access to services Replicability: - This study will build institutional capacity to tackle further retrofit projects in the future - JTTC plans to open source the findings of the study to similar programs and housing providers in urban centers Affordability: Rents for all units will be capped at 30% of income, or the maximum shelter amount for Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Payment recipients.
