Description
The City of Victoriaville will study a thermal hydrolysis treatment technology to improve its wastewater sludge treatment process. The Institute of National Scientific Research (INRS) of the University of Québec developed the technology and will conduct the study for the City. The new technology will pre-treat wastewater to eliminate the toxicity of organic pollutants in treated sludge, reduce the quantity and weight of sludge for disposal, and remove pathogens. It will be evaluated in relation to its effect on the cost of the overall treatment process and its ability to transform the treated end-product into compost or another valuable input for bio-chemical products. The City expects that the technology will cut carbon dioxide emissions associated with the transportion and disposal of sludge in landfill and reduce energy consumption at the water treatment plant. This initiative is part of City’s goal of becoming a sustainable community in its use and treatment of water.
