Description
Currently municipal wastewater from the City of St. John’s and the adjoining City of Mount Pearl and Town of Paradise is being discharged untreated into St. John’s Harbour. The construction of a new primary wastewater treatment plant has been selected as the preferred alternative because it is the simplest to operate and maintain. The GMIF loan has two distinct components: it supports construction of the new primary wastewater treatment plant; and, in order to maximize the environmental benefit of the low interest GMIF loan, the City will direct the debt service savings from the loan into initiatives that will increase the environmental benefit of the loan and improve water conservation and source protection in the City.
