Description
The City of Edmundston is planning infrastructure upgrades to accommodate various cultural and sporting organizations. These include: renovation and expansion of the regional sports complex; construction of a new arena and multi-sport facility; renovation of an existing auditorium; construction of a smaller auditorium and service areas, and; a link to inter-connect these facilities with the university and high school. To minimize the impact of the upgrades on municipal operating costs and energy consumption, the City will conduct a feasibility study on developing a district energy system that would use clean, competitive power generation technologies and reduce energy imports. The study will include: an assessment of heat and power generation assets; an assessment of future energy needs for the various facilities; an evaluation of export market potential; a review of options for thermal energy and embedded power generation technology; an assessment of the environmental/regulatory framework, and; cost-benefit analysis and recommendations. The reductions in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions to be achieved with a clean-fuel district energy system will be calculated for various fuels.
