Description
This study will investigate the potential for using rejected heat and process steam from the city's natural gas generatingplant to power a district energy system within Medicine Hat. As a first step, the study will determine the amount of heatavailable from the city's power plant, and then decide if the surplus is sufficient to justify a new district heating project.The financial impacts of the project will be estimated, so the city can make a decision about whether to proceed with theplan. If successful, a district heating system would enable the city to better utilize its energy, and reduce the inefficiencyof the power plant, with the least possible environmental impact. The city is working with Natural Resources Canada toget technical advice.
