Description

Supportive Housing of Waterloo (SHOW) has provided Supportive Housing in Waterloo, Ontario for the past ten years. It has experience building new affordable housing, and the current project would be its first retrofit. This initiative will assess retrofit opportunities for a recently purchased 24-unit seniors’ apartment building. Alongside tenant engagement activities, the plan will review the electrical, architectural, and mechanical (solar PV) opportunities to retrofit the existing building, including turning unused space into two additional units. The plan will address aging windows, low insulation, and a leaking roof. The plan will also assess the best approach for installing an elevator, which is a necessary upgrade for a seniors’ residence. The proposed plan will result in three different options for consideration: a 25% reduction in energy use, a 75% reduction, or net-zero energy use.
