Description
The City of Langley developed two new plans: a corporate energy and emissions sustainability plan and a community energy and emissions sustainability plan. The plans aimed to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in corporate and community buildings and engineering assets (fleet, water, wastewater and solid waste). Using Hyla Environmental Services’ Energy and Emissions Reporting and Monitoring System™ as a forecasting and planning tool, the project team identified base-year levels of corporate and community energy consumption, energy costs and GHG emissions. The team then analyzed buildings and engineering assets to identify potential energy reduction initiatives, their capital costs and simple payback, and resulting reductions in GHG emissions. Public consultations were held to obtain feedback on the draft energy reduction measures. The project team then drafted the two plans, which included implementation and monitoring processes.
