Description
With the support of FCM funding, the Town of Smiths Falls is looking to update its condition assessments for its road assets (approx. 68 kilometres) and sidewalk assets (approx. 65 kilometres). Looking ahead, the Town is looking to move condition assessments into an objective format that utilizes a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) and a Sidewalk Condition Index (SCI). The StreetScan System which has been offered through Local Authority Services (LAS) will help the Town obtain an objective (automated) review of the condition of these assets and will also provide for a visualization of these condition ratings in a Geographical Information Systems platform (GIS). The software platforms provided by StreetScan will also help the Town establish affordable Levels of Service (LOS) that will consider timely preventative maintenance interventions to extend service life. The acquisition of objective technical data will also play a key part in helping the Town understand how to manage the risks of the infrastructure deficits while ensuring and appropriate balance in spending between rehabilitation and reconstruction works.
