Description

As a member of Partners for Climate Protection (PCP), the City of Vancouver has committed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from municipal operations by 20 per cent by 2010, based on 1990 levels, and community emissions by six per cent by 2010, based on 1992 levels. This study builds towards that goal by updating PCP milestone one and completing PCP milestones two and three for corporate emissions, as well as, completing milestones one, two and three for community emissions. Led by the Cool Vancouver Taskforce, which was created by the City to oversee the PCP milestone process and is composed of stakeholders from the private, public and non-governmental organization (NGO) sectors, the community will engage through ongoing consultations. Deliverables include a review and an update of baseline GHG data for corporate emissions; the creation of baseline GHG data for community emissions; the development of draft GHG reduction action plans for corporate and community emissions that include a description of issues and a range of actionable options; the design and implementation of a consultation plan for broad public discussion and learning on the issue; public consultation sessions to seek input and critique of the draft plan; the finalization of GHG reduction action plans for corporate and community GHG emissions; and official Council approval of both plans.
