Description
The City wants to implement additional storage in the area, in a non-invasive manner, to reduce the vulnerability of system and to adapted to the impacts of climate change. Low Impact development (LID) measures can be implemented to reduce the stormwater peak flows before they reach to the roads intersection, thus minimizing the flooding. This project will work with existing landowners in the predefined area to implement additional active rooftop rainwater storage on-site. The proposed system will use an Electronically Actuated Valve (EAV), paired with a Quantitative Precipitation Forecasting (QPF) algorithm to ensure there is enough capacity to retain the upcoming storm (up to the 90th percentile storm), until the stormwater system is able to accept more flow. Each building (node) in this system will be connected electronically to a larger network. The smart system will allow the City to monitor water levels at each node, collect information about how much rainfall was collected during each event, when the valves were opened to release the stored stormwater into the collection system, and if the landowner/property manager chose to open the valves at any point in time. This system will also allow the City access to remotely open the values to release any retained water.
