Description

The Unity Centre of Practical Christianity (UCPC) in Vancouver is a faith-based organization listed under the BC Societies Act (2018). The organization, which does not currently operate affordable housing, will complete an assessment of opportunities to redevelop an existing site to affordable rental units for the broader community. The new development will follow the City of Vancouver’s Green Building Policy and intends on following the city’s requirements for Low Emissions Green Buildings. The SAH Planning Grant will help UCPC with several preliminary activities, including but not limited to: • Project scoping and work plan • Background studies and policy review • Project visioning and goal development • Meetings with the organization’s Board and key stakeholders • Preliminary financial analysis This funding will also highlight priority energy conservation measures such as envelope efficiency, wall-to-window ratio, energy system sub-metering and airtightness. The goal is to redevelop the existing building to reach an 80 kWh/m2 energy performance while remaining affordable. Results from this assessment will inform the development of a business plan and help the organization access additional GMF funding for a study.
