Description
The Village of Belcarra (population 643) has a limited inventory of capital assets - the focus of this project is on municipal roads. In 2016, Belcarra engaged Urban Systems Ltd to compile an inventory of local roads, an asset valuation and a 20-year asset replacement forecast and to recommend next steps. One of the consultants' recommendations at the conclusion of that particular project was to undertake a more detailed condition assessment to confirm the remaining useful life of the 9km (approx.) road network. Assessing the road surface and associated assets within the network (including drainage), identifying the condition of those assets based on consistent standards, and prioritizing renewal/maintenance efforts is the next step towards refining the Village's asset management program for roads. The results will enable the Village to improve its planning and decision making related to the municipal road network by refining the asset renewal strategy and investment plan based on actual, current road condition.
