Description

In close collaboration with the City of Kenora, Ontario, the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) will complete an assessment of building-design considerations for bringing a new 54-unit facility to net-zero energy ready (NZER) status while remaining affordable for seniors. The study will expand on an existing environmental site assessment and design with an original target of being 55% more energy efficient than what is required under the national building code. KDSB will establish a clear baseline for the additional energy considerations, investigate design options for the building envelop, consider possibilities of onsite energy production, and review required changes to the existing layout and systems to yield a higher energy efficiency performance. Results from this planning grant will help the organization access additional Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Co-Investment Program and GMF funding to support an eventual capital project.
