Description
The City of Yellowknife recycles about two per cent of its solid waste. To make improvements, city council approved acommunity waste management strategic plan in 2001. Possible activities include depot recycling, residential composting, waste awareness programs, packaging reduction, and multi–family residential and institutional recyclables collection.Options will be evaluated and implementation recommendations will be made. With the strategic plan in place,Yellowknife projects that solid waste diversion will increase from two per cent to 38 per cent over 20 years.
