Description

The Greater Vancouver Regional District operates five wastewater treatment plants. There is presently no high qualityreclamation or reuse application process for wastewater. A recent feasibility study found that water consumption withinthe treatment plants could be reduced using effective reclamation technologies. A pilot project will be conducted at theAnnacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, which consumes about 550,000 L/day of potable water. The project willsupply 500,000 L/day of high quality reclaimed water and will replace 91 per cent of the plant's potable water demand.Effluent will be filtered and chemically disinfected to produce reclaimed water that meets provincial standards for effluentreuse. The project will also demonstrate the value of sustainable use of drinking water resources.
