Description

The Waterloo Regional Police (WRP) Service is responsible for providing policing to the Region’s 450,000 residents and visitors. The WRP Headquarters Expansion project was launched following a study assessing police staffing growth at the WRP Headquarters in Cambridge to 2012. The WRP Headquarters Expansion will be located adjacent to the existing WRP Headquarters. It will house the Investigative Services Branch, including a forensics laboratory and vehicle examination garage, meeting rooms, office space and ancillary support rooms. The new 3,700 m2, three storey building will be designed and constructed to achieve an energy performance level of 60 per cent below the Model National Energy Code for Buildings and to obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDTM) Silver certification. The project will utilize four strategies to achieve exceptional energy efficiency results: load avoidance, heat recovery, use of renewable energy sources and high equipment efficiency. The working environment will be enhanced through day lighting and improved indoor air quality. This approach will reduce peak electrical demand by one-third. In addition, annual energy costs will be reduced from $78,465 to $29,962, annual GHG emissions by 144 tonnes and potable water consumption by 20 per cent.
