Description

The Region of Peel will develop a Sustainable Neighbourhood Retrofit Action Plan (SNAP) for County Court, located in the City of Brampton. The overall objective of the plan is to accelerate a transformation to sustainability through retrofitting the built environment. A number of sustainability issues will be addressed, notably stormwater management, energy and water conservation, transportation, green buildings, waste management, natural heritage and urban forest management. The resulting action plan will propose sustainable cost-effective technical solutions and strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation that are applicable to an established, suburban neighbourhood. This endeavor is a highly collaborative one and will involve collaboration between the Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), municipal partners, community groups, residents, landowners and businesses. The project management team, which includes representatives from the Region of Peel, the City of Brampton and the TRCA, will guide the project, provide technical advice and approve the final plan. A multi-disciplinary consultant team has been hired to develop the plan under the direction of both the project management team and the community.
In Phase 1, a sustainability framework was developed, which included goals, targets and indicators, and identified possible retrofit options for the neighbourhood. In Phases 2 and 3, which are the objects of the current proposal, a range of integrated retrofit scenarios will be developed and evaluated using multi-objective evaluation criteria and innovative evaluation tools. The shortlisted scenario will be integrated into the final retrofit action plan, which will include the business cases for the retrofits, an implementation strategy, a performance monitoring plan as well as a marketing strategy.
The SNAP will be the first of a series of neighbourhood action plans expected to support the City of Brampton’s comprehensive sustainability plan.
