Climate Change Staff - Norfolk County

The grant-funded employee will implement initiatives that increase the municipality's capacity to adapt to climate change. The first phase of work will be to develop a climate adaptation plan for the municipality. These plans identify climate change impacts, risks, and related adaptive strategies or actions related to the region. the community, a neighbourhood or a group of assets. Once the climate adaption plan is developed. the second phase of work will be to implementoperational and institutional changes within the municipality that will help ensure long-term climate adaptation after the grant period.The final phase of work will involve preparatory work leading to the implementation of climate adaptations initiatives and the grant-funded staff person is required to move activities from the planning stage to the implementation stage over the course of the grant period.In Year 1 , the Recipient plans to:Prepare for the planning process through research and preliminary stakeholder engagementCreate a vision for the planning processEstablish and chair Norfolk County Climate Adaptation Steering CommitteeDevelop a framework for a public climate change awareness programDevelop a scope of work and issue county request for proposal for plan development through consultant servicesDevelop the Climate Change Adaptation plan and obtain council and senior leadership team approvalIn Year 2, the Recipient intends to:Create annual measurement and monitoring protocolsEstablish and implement a corporate climate adaptation policyRevise existing corporate policies and plans to include climate adaptation plan objectivesImplement a public climate change awareness programProvide an annual report of progress to council Develop technical plans or specifications to implement capital projects identifiedProcure technical tools and data for long-term monitoring
