Description
The Regional Municipality of Peel and its subsidiary, Peel Housing Corporation (PHC), currently own and operate over 7,000 affordable housing units for nearly 1.5 million residents in the Region. This project focuses on a renovation of Weaver’s Hill, a two-building complex of 254 units. In this study, Peel will assess different options to improve the energy efficiency of Weaver’s Hill by at least 25% and reduce building GHG emissions by almost 20%. The study will determine optimized approaches to reduce energy consumption by reviewing ventilation and space heating, fuel shifting, water boilers, air units, and building cooling. Innovative aspect(s): • The project seeks to achieve the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) net zero carbon standard (version 2), an ambitious goal in the affordable housing context Replicability: • The applicant’s measurement and monitoring plan is modelled on the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol. The plan aims to “maximize the efficiency of energy saving, enhance the overall development of a project, support quick project delivery and project efficiency, increase public awareness on energy conservation, and emphasize the importance of emission reduction credits.” This study’s outcomes could inform measurement and monitoring approaches for other affordable housing providers applying for SAH funding. Affordability: • 100% of the building’s units are affordable according to SAH’s criteria (Project description from original funding application)
