Description

The grant-funded employee will implement initiatives that increase the municipality's capacity to adapt to climate change. The first phase of work will be to develop a climate adaptation plan.This plan identifies climate change impacts, risks, and related adaptive strategies or actions related to the region, the community. a neighbourhood or a group of assets.Once the climate adaption plan is developed, the second phase of work will be to implementoperational and institutional changes within the municipality that will help ensure long-termclimate adaptation after the grant period.The final phase of work will involve preparatory work leading to the implementation of climate adaptations initiatives and the grant-funded staff person is required to move activities from the planning stage to the implementation stage over the course of the grant period.In Year 1, the Recipient plans to:Review and redefine mandate of conservation committee to include climate change adaptationResearch - Compile and review all Huron County related documents and objectivesCarry out committee, local municipal and public consultation for the Vulnerability AssessmentComplete initial study - climate adaptation needs assessmentCreate the climate adaptation plan timelineWrite the climate change adaptation committee terms of referenceCommence the climate adaptation policy developmentIdentify Strategic level climate risk categories across Huron County/local npunicipality assetsDevelop a guideline and criteria for regional adaptation initiativesUpdate climate adaptation plan timelineCompile data from the Vulnerability Assessment and draft a reportUse the climate needs assessment data to create a local climate risks documentObtain the annual resolution from council supporting the climate adaptation steering committeeStart a climate adaptation awareness campaign - Internal and ExternalAchieve approval for the climate adaptation policyAssess project objectives and goals to complete the climate adaptation plan frameworkIn Year 2, the Recipient intends to identify the activities based on the outcomes of year I
