Description

Qualicum Parksville Kiwanis Housing Society (The Society) will complete an assessment of net-zero energy ready options for a 50-unit new construction in the small Town of Qualicum Beach in British Columbia. The proposed development will offer affordable housing to people with disabilities, seniors, low and moderate-income families, and individuals. The SAH planning grant will support the applicant to engage professionals and provide a set of strategies to at the minimum achieve NZER. The engineers will review cost-effective and efficient building enclosures, HVAC systems, lighting, plug and process loads, and water heaters best suited for this particular site and context. The engineers, along with other consultants, will propose an energy model and preliminary design for the Society’s members to review. Overall, results from this planning grant will inform future projects both within the organization and the community. Moreover, results from this energy assessment will help the organization access additional Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), British Columbia Housing grant as well as GMF funding to support an eventual capital project.
