Description
This project will replace typical building design with architectural passive design features that include the optimization of building shape, shading features, day lighting features, green spaces and green roofs. Renewable energy systems will be employed: wind driven ventilation, a solar domestic hot water system and a passive solar geothermal high performance system. Highly efficient architecturally integrated mechanical systems will be used: a geothermal heating/cooling plant, radiant heating/cooling, wind/buoyancy driven ventilation and trombe wall. Water savings will be attained through the use of rainwater and process water for irrigation and toilets, low flow fixtures and the on-site treatment of all stormwater. The building is projected to save approximately 60% in energy demand. Firehall #4s green construction could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by some 39 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.
