Description

The City of Toronto is a member of FCM’s Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, which provides a five milestone framework for developing an emissions reduction strategy, implementing the strategy, and monitoring results over time. This planning study furthers the City of Toronto’s progress towards Milestone One – Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory and Forecast, Milestone Two – Setting an Emissions Reduction Target, and Milestone Three – Developing a Local Action Plan. The Toronto Atmospheric Fund will work closely with the City of Toronto’s Air Quality Improvement Branch to complete a community-wide emissions inventory, analysis of opportunities for emissions reduction and scenario forecasting, preliminary community consultation, and a final report to identify the best opportunities for community-wide emissions reductions and to indicate possible strategies to address these opportunities. The final report will also recommend a method to actively engage the community in subsequent phases of the plan, including final design and implementation of the Local Action Plan. Toronto City Council will receive this report in tandem with the report on progress towards the City of Toronto’s 20 per cent GHG emissions reduction goal.
