Description
The Municipality of the District of West Hants will conduct energy audits of its central administrative building, water treatment plant and waste water treatment plant. In addition, the following activities will be undertaken: assessment of building envelopes, interiors, and mechanical, electrical and control systems; identification of energy conservation/retrofit improvements; investigation of alternative forms of energy (wind, solar, methane) that could be feasibly introduced into the facilities; evaluation of expected energy reductions, including associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions; life cycle costing of energy improvement opportunities with short and long-term recommendations; building assessment reports; and development and implementation of a communications strategy to disseminate the study findings to the community and to provide opportunities for public input into the project implementation phase. It is expected that the implementation of capital projects ensuing from the study will result in an increase in approximately 20 percent reduction in energy consumption, thus reducing GHG emissions.
