Climate Change Staff - District Municipality of Muskoka

The grant-funded employee will implement initiatives that increase the municipality’s capacity to adapt to climate change. The first phase of work will be to develop a climate adaptation for the municipality. These plans identify climate change impacts, risks, and related adaptive strategies or actions related to the region, the community, a neighbourhood or a group of assets. Once the climate adaption plan is developed, the second phase of work will be to implement operational and institutional changes within the municipality that will help ensure long-term climate adaptation after the grant period. The final phase of work will involve preparatory work leading to the implementation of climate adaptations initiatives and the grant-funded staff person is required to move activities from the planning stage to the implementation stage over the course of the grant period. In Year 1, the Recipient plans to? Determine project framework for developing and delivering a Climate Action Plan? Develop a communication and engagement strategy? Complete and analyze the baseline assessment of corporate climate initiatives? Identify goals and set targets? Identify potential future initiatives ? Quantify potential impacts of initiatives? Prioritize initiatives and establish metrics, develop an implementation plan? Consolidate the plan and deliver to Council for review and approvalIn Year 2, the Recipient intends to:? Once the climate action plan is approved, track and report progress to Council? Assist in the review and finalization of the District Asset Management Plan? Provide project management for distribution of new flood plain maps? Review and update existing District By-laws to ensure a climate-smart focus? Seek and secure external funds to achieve identified priorities and capital projects? Assist in the review and finalization of the District Energy Plan? Track existing climate smart initiatives and implementation of new initiatives
