Description

The City of Thompson will develop a Sustainable Community Plan (SCP) based on four pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, social and cultural. The City is a northern, resource based community that acts as the economic and service centre for the Northern Region of Manitoba. The SCP is intended to create a sustainable direction for the further growth and development of the Thompson area. Through interviews, focus groups, open houses, public meetings and surveys, the City will engage stakeholders and the public to establish a community-led sustainability vision, goals and objectives. As the overall role of the City goes beyond legal boundaries, stakeholders in the surrounding areas will be included in the engagement process. The City will use this process to raise public awareness regarding sustainability. The SCP will be reviewed by a Steering Committee, City Council and through a public open house before it is finalized and approved.
