Description
The City of Windsor will develop an Environmental Master Plan (EMP) that will encompass and integrate existing plans, policies and initiatives in order to improve the social, health, economic and environmental well-being of the entire community. The EMP is a City-driven, corporate and community exercise that will provide a comprehensive framework for the City’s corporate direction. The EMP will set firm reduction targets for environmental indicators and will contain a series of performance measures to monitor the outcomes of each of the proposed actions. The City expects that the implementation of the EMP will result in numerous environmental benefits. For example, a likely action from the EMP will be the completion of FCM’s Partners for Climate Program (PCP) five milestones. By completing the PCP milestones, within a ten year timeframe, the City expects to achieve corporate GHG emissions reductions of 20 per cent and community reductions of six per cent, relative to 1990 levels. Other environmental benefits include increases in the amount of solid waste diverted from landfill, in water quality, in building energy efficiency, and in green spaces; a reduction in corporate and community water use and pesticide use; and a decrease in urban sprawl.
