Description

The City of Greater Sudbury is already engaged in a GMEF–supported feasibility study to develop a community energyaction plan. The Strategic Energy Audit and Retrofit Plan for its municipal facilities complements this effort. The resultsof this study are expected to support performance improvement to municipal building energy demands. All 175corporate facilities under the new City of Greater Sudbury, which was formed in 2001, will be included. Audits will beconducted and a comprehensive retrofit strategy will be prepared. The study will also provide baseline data and retrofitoptions. The buildings represent a total estimated area of 1,500,000 square feet, an annual energy bill of approximately$2.7 million and equivalent CO2 emissions of 35,000 tonnes annually. The work will target a 30 per cent reduction incurrent energy costs resulting in annual cost savings of $610,000 in 1998 dollars and the reduction of 11,000 tonnes ofequivalent CO2 annually.
