Description

The Townships of Uxbridge, Brock and Scugog (all in the region of North Durham) will collaborate to develop an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) that includes specific plans for each municipality and a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction strategy. The ICSP will establish a long-term vision that reflects the distinctive nature and characteristics of each community while identifying a coordinated approach toward regional sustainability. Key community leaders and program partners will participate in a visioning process, and will form working teams to identify and prioritize issues and opportunities. Two approaches will then be used to develop the ICSP: a multi-stage planning framework and an incremental project-based program. The planning framework will be based on the five milestones of the Partners for Climate Protection program. The incremental project-based program is a “learn-by-doing” or adaptive management approach. The municipalities will develop an implementation plan for the top sustainability initiatives — including actions, targets and monitoring and evaluation processes — in order to facilitate progress and accountability and ensure effective implementation.
