Description

In the hope of becoming a model of sustainability on the Island of Montreal, the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue will develop an integrated community sustainability plan (ICSP) based on the “Natural Step Approach”, a process which relies mainly on community participation and development of a sustainable philosophy in the very fabric of the City. In fact, the community will be consulted throughout the process. Furthermore, development of the ICSP will be lead by a sustainable development committee made up of committed residents, members of Council, and City employees as well as representatives of local businesses and organizations, including McGill University and John Abbott College.
The ICSP with its 10-year life cycle will deal with environmental questions concerning water, energy, residual matter, transportation and green spaces. It will allow the City to integrate sustainable development objectives into all its spheres of activity and to review its urban planning bylaws with a sustainability perspective. In addition, the City will adopt a specific urban plan (SUP) for the northern portion of its territory including l’Anse-à-l’Orme Park. The City hopes to make this sector a sustainable neighbourhood via a “Micro Agenda 21” and implement the LEED-ND (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighbourhood Developments) approach to protect l’Anse-à-l’Orme forest.
