Description

In partnership with Climate Change Central, the City of Calgary will study and field test a remote-controlled street light dimming system — the Lumen IQ™ — and a new Streetlight Intelligence Management System (SIMS) to determine the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of the technology. Using about 500, 400-watt high-pressure sodium street lights is estimated to deliver energy savings of more than 289 megawatts per year and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 250 tonnes annually. In addition, the technology’s asset management features would contribute to the efficiency of street light maintenance. Converting to this dimming technology would make the city’s street light system among the most efficient in Canada and make it a model for all Canadian municipalities.
